Chocolate Cake with Orange and Chocolate Compote

Ingredients:

  • 200 g of 00 flour
  • 150 g of granulated sugar
  • 150 g of soft butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g dark chocolate
  • 70 g of bitter cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 150 g of orange and chocolate compote
  • Powdered sugar for decoration (optional)

Step by Step Preparation:

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Butter and flour a 22cm diameter baking pan.
    • Melt the dark chocolate in a bain-marie or in the microwave, stirring every 20 seconds.
    • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until soft and fluffy.
    • Add the eggs, one at a time, continuing to mix.
    • Combine sifted flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix until you get a smooth dough.
    • Add the melted chocolate and mix well.
  2. Add the compote:
    • Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan.
    • Add 100g of orange and chocolate compote on top of the dough, spreading it evenly.
    • Cover with the rest of the dough, trying to cover the compote well.
  3. Bake the cake:
    • Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean (the compote may make it more moist).
    • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Serve:
    • Before serving, dust the cake with icing sugar, if desired.

Alternative Suggestion:

Add some dark chocolate chips on the surface before baking the cake, for an even more delicious and crunchy effect.
